    Kar 98k Sniper Project Completed

I'm glad you documented it here so some shyster will have a more difficult time passing it off as authentic.

    Movie GOLDFINGER and K98s

As a child a lot of things went over my head in that historical documentary. 1) Germans regularly separated officers from non-coms an privates and each had their own camp. As a colonel, Hogan would not be mixed in with the NCOs. 2) Germans segregated prisoners by nationalities (no Newkirk or...

In the "historical documentary" Hogan's Heroes Sgt. Schultz may sometimes be seen with a Krag rifle.

WWII Snipers sucked and couldn't kill anything past 300m! Say whaaat?!

Amberg - it is! It is a Chevrolet 30 CWT! BTW, where are the feldgendarme when you need them? Driving with a broken headlamp? No cat eye cover/blackout lamp? Afrika Korps advance on Alexandria stopped by Feldgendarme. Snipers (1939-1945): The Men, Their Guns, Their Story. The...

WWII Snipers sucked and couldn't kill anything past 300m! Say whaaat?!

I'm wondering if it's a Chevrolet 30 CWT like those used by the SAS?

Any idea what vehicle that is? I initially thought because of the slopped bonnet/hood Horch but then the steering wheel is on the British side.

WWII Snipers sucked and couldn't kill anything past 300m! Say whaaat?!

Amberg - I've no info on that photo I posed. I've seen it around. Haven't seen the Afrika Korps image. Is it public domain?

WWII Snipers sucked and couldn't kill anything past 300m! Say whaaat?!

@Ambert, not this one, is it? Collars aren't open but this is the only image that comes to mind of a German sniper on a truck.

WWII Snipers sucked and couldn't kill anything past 300m! Say whaaat?!

Soviet desanti snipers had a new role during Nach Berlin! The desantis were tank mounted soldiers who rode the tanks and protected them. Their snipers were expected to kill any panzerfaust armed landser/soldat/jugend before the tank got hit. That's covered in the chapter of the same name...

WWII Snipers sucked and couldn't kill anything past 300m! Say whaaat?!

The video is correct in that most sniper hits were 300 meters or even less and the circumstances are worthy of discussion. Stagnant warfare as in city or trench fighting lends itself to closer shooting. In a sense because of the distances involved, so does jungle warfare. Mind you, there...

Another Mitchel's turd, but the description really takes the cake!

Was talking to a collector of pre-cartridge era firearms last week. He told me that when he was a child (in the days when you could cross the border with $20 and come back with an armload of guns and NO ONE thought anything of it), he learned that Pancho Villa's wife was the notary public in a...

    Bluing Process - Recommendations

Take a NRA Summer School bluing class and do it yourself. I learned at Lassen College (Susanville, CA) and retook it at Trinidad. I did production at Lassen but learned how to polish at Trinidad (polish affects the bluing).
