    Neglected rife clean up

It’s actually a very desirable rifle. They are quality rifles and very much a part of German occupation WW2 firearm history. Take your time and do it right. Don’t cut corners. Buy a wheeler engineering gunsmith screwdriver set or similar. Get the kroil and bronze wool. Steel wool with destroy...

    Kar98k identification help

Unfortunately I’m not sure. Could be anything honestly. Originally in its wartime configuration it was 7.92x57mm or commonly known as “8mm Mauser”. I would remove the rifle from the stock and see if it’s marked somewhere on the barrel…

    Kar98k identification help

Yes, it’s been modified… “Heavily” in all respects. Receiver drilled and tapped for some kind of post-war/modern mount/scope. Entire rifle metal heavily polished. Bolt handle modified and reshaped and polished into the white. Aftermarket sporter style walnut stock. Barrel…List can go on and on...

BYF 42 please critique and share wisdom

The stock is the correct manufacturer. It’s a Mauser Oberndorf (BYF) stock. Just not original to this rifle’s metal. It’s been “force matched” by someone post war. Follower is original, just was “enhanced” by someone. Never understood why hunters or whoever felt the need to do this bevel to...

BYF 42 please critique and share wisdom

Stock and handguard obviously is not original to the rifle. It’s the correct manufacturer, but a later war stock. Somebody sanded the original area where the serial is and restamped it. You can see where the sanding stopped vs the rest of the barrel channel. Front band is “humped”. That’s not a...

My numbers matching K98K BCD 4 I need a little help with a few questions.

I don’t mean to bust your balls ⚽️ 🏀 about that dou42, but your statement is not entirely accurate and since you are bringing it up... The top bolt root serial was not the only part of the bolt that was bad. Firing pin as well. With the revised pics without the white crap in it, I suspect the...

BYF 42 please critique and share wisdom

We need a lot more pictures to give you a full honest assessment. However usually when something like the follower has been ground down to a bevel…. It’s not a good sign for being a original unmolested rifle. Sometimes you get lucky as someone post war may have “only” done that and we have metal...

My numbers matching K98K BCD 4 I need a little help with a few questions.

I asked because the pics of the stock disc and the bolt cutout area were not posted…. During this time frame, JPS used at least 3-4 possible stock variations. The really rare menzel supplied stock which would be “c” marked and have the larger stock disc (not it because of stock code location)...

My numbers matching K98K BCD 4 I need a little help with a few questions.

Not really considered a “dual code” in my opinion. Definitely not a Gustloffwerke. As mentioned, it’s a 1944 JP Sauer assembled k98k using a supplied astrawerke receiver. Sauer never produced their own receivers and with their focus shifting to Stg/MP44 production anyway… this happened. Also I...

    S/27 1937 value

If the bore is nice, and that bolt is matching to the barreled receiver…. It’s a $600+ gun as is all day long. The stock can possibly be saved (if it’s the original) with donor materials. We need more pics. I’ve seen way worse be fixed to be respectable… Complete matching to themselves bolts...

    help ID?

IMO, simply just not enough info to go with at the moment to make a truly accurate assessment. This much which is obvious. It’s not an original 1940 JP Sauer as would have left the factory. That’s 100%. I personally may entertain the idea towards the depot rework as mentioned above by others...

    dou 44 matching

Beautiful! Love the trademark Brunn II dark bluing. The tiny firing proof on the bolt ball is really cool. Very nice pickup. These occupied Czechoslovakian manufactured rifles are generally really excellent rifles in terms of fit, finish, accuracy and quality. Congrats on your newest addition!

Ouch, those buyers premiums/auction fees can be brutal. This is a perfect example. Somebody is going to get royally taken.

Byf45 zf41 KM Sniper? Marksman? New addition 😆 (pic heavy)

Yup, you win some and also lose some. A by44 in my possession comes to mind that I got years ago on GB. Terrible pics and description that was done by an 12 year old. Took the chance, got it for cheap but I turn my head away when I walk next to it. It has a mint bore and shoots amazing which are...

Bruce, just curious… did you sell it with the white paint in the markings/serials?

The auction had 3 pics total, only of which one showed any detail. Shout out and thanks to @bruce98k for taking a look to put me at some ease. It was a risk though, but I suppose it paid off. Final hammer was under 1k.
