Going pretty far back now... M41 Dreyse

Beautiful rifle! Needle rifles are a favourite of mine. Thanks for showing such great pictures. "88. L. II. 1. 46" should be the "Landwehr-Bataillon Weilburg, second company, rifle 46" which was the second Bataillon of the 2. Nassauisches Landwehr-Regiment no. 88. With kind regards Vincent

Oh Wow, this is one of the colonial Jägerbüchse 1871 with an added ejector. This was done as late as 1909 and then again another batch arround 1911 at the state arsenal of Spandau. Really nice to see. Thanks to you and your friend!

Novice needing info...Spandau Gew 98 stock disc.

Regarding the unit marking. I have never seen anything like that. Since there is no unit marking regulation left to study, when it comes to the imperial navy we can only take aducated guesses. Within the last 10 years i have seen quite a lot of Seebatiallon unit markings on bayonets and rifles...

    Kar 88, depot rework?

    16. T.E. 62 as RyanE already stated its the Train-Bataillon no. 16, Ersatz department, weapon no. 62. 3. A.F.E. 3. 239. Footartillery regiment no. 3, Ersatz-Bataillon, battery no. 3, weapon no. 239. This would indicate that the barrel band was originally part of an Gewehr 91 since these were...

    Unit Marking on M1898n/A

The original unitmarking reads as the II. Ersatz-Seebataillon. The I. and II. Ersatz-Seebataillon were only mobilized for a very short period in 1900/1901 during the boxer rebellion. After the war in China was over the Ersatz-Seebataillons were demobilized again and the weapons were given to the...

    C.G.H Suhl 1877 Kar71

Again, no expert on bavarian stuff but i could find the numbers for a prussian field bakery column in 1914. It shows that there are 188 men and low ranking officers and 3 high ranking officers. It should be the same numbers in the bavarian armed forces.

I am always interested to learn more and this forum is a great place to do so :-) When it comes to the unit marking my source is the book on german unitmarkings from Wacker & Görtz, page 84. It really is a great carbine but this is not a cavalry unit marking. i am sorry. According to the bavarian 1882/1888 unit marking regulation B. R. B.C. 2. 152. "translates" to bavarian reserve field bakery column no. 2 weapon no. 152. With kind regards Vincent

    Landespolizei KS Gew 98.

What a great rifle. My honest congratulationt to you! One interesting question that always comes for me with these Landespolizei rifles is where are the bayonets for them? When it comes to colonial unit markings i have seen every possible marking (K.S., Sch.D.O.A., P.T.K. etc.) both on...

    1904 Kar98 carbine

No, you are right. The S84/98 new pattern shown in the pictures wasnt even in service until mid 1915 when most of the Schutztruppe wasnt even fighting anymore. Great Schutztruppe bayonets by the way! With kind regards Vincent
