Hi all,

Here is the other rifle I purchased along with the '07 Oberndorf.

1879 Amberg, Bavarian unit marked.

Matching down to the last piece. A prior owner put some kind of varnish on the metal. This is flaking off when handled. Anyway, I wanted a nice infantry m71 to go with my infantry and jaeger model 71s.

Thanks for posting this one also, could you state the exact unit marking for the M71 and M71/84 study? I am trying to be as accurate as possible, and I can't quite make out the unit marking.

Nice piece doesn't that make three 1871 Mausers for you chrisftk? I have too say I have a soft spot for that Jager piece of yours that piece is cool and very nice.

Paul, sorry the lighting when I took pictures wasn't the greatest-- The full unit marking is B 17 R. 8 190.

I have a few other 71s with unit marks I can PM you.

Thanks Warrior-- The 71B is definitely a looker too-- did you see my carbine? http://www.k98kforum.com/showthread.php?12838-71-Mauser-Carbine-Local-find

I'm up to 6 large bore mausers, but probably going to thin the herd. I really only wanted a nice, matching (or mostly) M71 infantry, jaeger, carbine and a 71/84. I've checked all those boxes now.:happy0180:

Thanks Chris, I updated the listing. I would like to add any rifle you can come up with, need the date of mfg, date of issue (if different), maker, unit and location.

This was the project Craig Brown was working with me when he passed away, he never was able to finish a few projects were were working on together, - and article about the shortened G88 and the descriptions for the M71/84's, plus a few incidental things. I intend to see the article gets published (I will put it on this forum too, so everyone can appreciate his work) and this thread he inspired is given attention. When I get knowledgeable enough on the M71/84, I will try and flesh out the descriptions he was unable to finish. Of course it will never be as good as he would have been able to do, but hopefully it would have met with his approval.
