Hi
A few more images attached however I am still struggling to get them to load.
Tried multiple attachments and doing them one by one but seems difficult.
As you can see some of the blued parts have had some abrasive cleaning before I got the rifle, I am looking at rebluing the barrell[ or should I leave it as is ?.
I appreciate the aged look of the rifle so am not sure if trying to restore it will be a good thing. I Have shot 50 rounds now and[not very accurately although I hope to improve as I get used to the rifle and try different powder loads now that I have some empty cartridges.
Can anyone recommend a cold bluing kit from experience ?.
Thanks Ian

Some excellent photographs; I probably would have cleaned it less, but I think it would be adding insult to injury to start re-bluing parts. It's still a nice rifle but refinishing (re-bluing) it can only diminish its originality and reduce its value.

At least this is the way its been in the United States for 40 years or more, mismatching components lessen the value of a rifle, the more there are the more it is reduces the value (especially the more important components like stock and bolt). The only thing worse than mismatched components are altered ones, this covers a wide array of conditions, from forgeries (which can make parts totally worthless) to simple refinishing, but all altering is considered bad, regardless of when it was done.

Naturally in our day of redefining values, morals and the near daily practice of creating pseudosciences to explain away or justify every meaningless event in societal devolution, we have groups of revisionists that seek to give meaning to these once undesirable conditions... however, unless your rifle can be wrapped up in some supernatural mystic about Stalingrad or Kursk, it probably cannot be covered by the "rc-clause" that makes garbage and junk magically collectible.

So in short, I would be cautious about any thoughts about refinishing. (though it could be different in Europe)

Thanks / ammo question / Hilfskorne ?

Thank you for the wise words Loewe ,
You have helped me to decide to just leave the rifle as it is and not do the re- bluing. I had to clean the rust off and only used nylon scotch-brite pads however someone had used more abrasive products a long time before I got the rifle.
I just want to use it and become more accurate so I can enter my local club competitions here for old military rifles.
I am struggling with accuracy at the moment and a fellow club member thinks it is down to using modern ammo, he suggests trying to get old ammo ( Its readily available in France) however it is expensive.
Have tried reloading with different powder weights and also shop bought but still not great although it is improving.
The inside of the barrel did have some corrosion and I removed that gently with wire wool on a used brush and I wonder if that could be an issue. Would the accuracy and consistency improve with use ?.

Has anyone got images or details or better still experience of the Hilfskorne front sight extender ?. I am only shooting at 100m and have to aim very low.

Thanks again
