This is another one that Mike was kind enough to pass to me and I'm fortunate to have been able to add it. It hasn't been previously shared here so I wanted to get some photos up.

Simson was another maker that has taken me some time to find, so I'm very happy to add it to the herd. It's good to have a rifle from a state other than Bavaria and Prussia and one with a gorgeous stock and crisp acceptance to boot.

I like it Sam especially from this being an elusive maker, you just don't find them for sale often. Goes well with that kornbusch too!
 
Glad you snagged this one Sam. It's a solid example! Mike certainly has a keen eye for picking the nice stuff. Textbook Saxon Simson. Crisp FA cypher. BKK RR acceptance. Good stuff.

Though you triggered a flashback of the trauma surrounding the Simson you sold long ago. (Sam owned the consecutive rifle to mine before we knew each other 😢)
 
This is a fantastic rifle. Interesting and tough maker to find, and in great condition to boot.

I really like Simpson because of their later connection with Weimar and then TR production (sorta).

Thanks Chris, really hoping it resurfaces some day. That pair would truly be one of a kind.

Simson's in upper grade are difficult, like Dresden's and other Suhls which seem to have been used more than many of their Prussian arsenals.. Once Simson got past it's 1915 difficulties, they made solid ranges (g--block) both years following, - though 1916 have three stray reports which are totally unsupported.

Not sure which is tougher, 1916 or 1917, but offhand 1916 has a lot more reports.

I think this is right, though they have the same range both years, real question is how many upper grade Simson/16 exist? Verses Simson/17's. (only about 40 1917's have been recoded in 20 years, 1916 over 90)
