1916 Spandau EWB

I apologize I missed the barrel code yesterday. Here is a picture of that and the wrist markings. These are the only other stock markings I could find.

Thanks, barrel coding for Spandau is really hurt by this tendency to place it before the RS, many do not look there and those that do find erratic application of the code which probably pass for random meaninglessness.

Amberg and Bavaria seemingly took on a larger role with the G98, you do see this sort of thing late in the war, probably as the only arsenal that retained large scale G98 production they might have been tasked with more reworking. Similar to Hannover (H-receivers), - WMO made the most G98's in 1918, but they were neither a state facility nor generally tasked with reworking, which was a role the depots and arsenals dealt with.

One could probably do a worthwhile study on this subject, several interesting rifles have been recorded with Bavarian re-barreling and or re-stocking. Placed into the context of late 1918-1919 it could be good reading, - so much is written about the situation in the west, which was rather undramatic, the German Army withdrew in good order, the Entente a respectful distance behind, often working with German Officers so civilians weren't left to thugs (without police or soldiers to keep deserters, refugees and criminals) between the armies retreating and advancing.. nothing existed like this in the east, great crimes and savagery plagued all the peoples of the east, - and for years after the war was over in the west.
