71/84 amberg

I have never owned one of these but bumped into one locally. Mostly matching ( the two lower bands are mm and maybe the stock ) anything I should look for? Or be aware of when looking at these? Bore is very nice and stock appears to have been cleaned but the markings remain fairly sharp. What is the price range on these? I’ll post some pictures shortly. Thanks

Generally there are few problems buying these, they come mismatched sometimes, but they seem to be free of rampant fraud. This one I hope the stock matches because there is one very close to this one that is unit marked. A rifle very close in serial number is listed in the research thread above, it is matching with a unit marking, these two rifles are only 3-digits off. Probably that rifle would be a good candidate for comparison.

I have its pictures, from an GB auction, when you get your rifle post some pictures and I will post up this other rifles pictures for comparison.

Checked with the seller and it is unit marked as well on the buttplate which matches as well. I will have the rifle in hand tomorrow. Should the stock be numbered externally? Or inside?

Depending on the unit mark it could be a interesting. Oh didn't find any really nice WW1 Luger holsters for you at the OGCA show. Most were in pretty poor condition. I'm also invited to go to the Great Eastern show next month so I'll be on the lookout again for you.

Picked it up today stock is matching the two upper bands are mm as well as the rear action screw. Buttplate is a little crusty I’ll get it wiped down and take some photos this weekend. Is there any particular part of the rifle you would like to see pictures of?

For the study (Craig Browns research thread on the M71 & M71/84) we only need the buttplate markings, though it would be good to see the stock markings also. Generally what you showed on Gunboards and here is enough for the research project, but research projects often expand their focus as new questions arise. These early rifles are more static in the trends regarding them, especially with the state arsenals (Amberg especially), however the more you show your rifle the more it might draw interest (commentary). The most interesting thing about your rifle, to me anyway, is its proximity to another rifle (1888 Amberg 86556 B.12.R.E.2.12) that sold last December (Gunbroker auction); there is also 1888 Amberg 86287 B.12.R.E.2.59 nearby with a similar unit marking. Hopefully yours fits this pattern also?

Another rifle that fits this pattern, sold a few years ago in germany: 1888 Amberg 85484 B.12.R.E.1.173.
