8mm R Identification-What Round Is This For?

Saw this the other day with a 1938 dated headstamp. It's a rimmed case so it's a bit of a strange one. German made to fit captured Russian rifles maybe? Experimental? Any help would be appreciated.

8x56R for the Steyr M95 rifles and carbines.

You are welcome. I've got about 25+ boxes of these, packed on stripper clips. Never can find it within me to shoot them though.
