ac45 P38 and holster

Picked this up at a local auction and waiting to pick it up (envy you guys not living in police states...), but wonder about the details on this holster. I'm used to seeing the mid-war black pebble holsters, so what is this? Post-war? Police?
Unfortunately need to stick with the crappy picture from the auction for now. Incidentally, at the same auction, a Krieghoff two-digit date 1936 Luftwaffe contract Luger with two matching magazines sold for $10,692.

Police holster, how is it marked? Does the pistol have police proofs?
Looks like a real nioce holster.

I'll have to check for markings when I pick it up. I didn't notice any police markings on the P38, but honestly wouldn't be sure what those markings looked like. The proofs all looked military to me.
 
There are no ac45 Police marked pistols that I am aware of, so probably just a convenient holster to put it in.

Thats why.

BL- Farb asked if the serial number is in the letter "b' block becuase thats where you find the fnh barrels.
Not saying one couldnt turn up in the "a" or "c" blocks, but these 'fnh' barrels are almost always in the "b" block.
 
Thanks very much for the info! Is there any chance that this holster would have been issued with the pistol originally, or was this simply convenience to a collector? If it's really not original to this particular weapon, I guess I'd rather sell it and buy a proper military holster.

It is unlikely that it would have originally been mated with a police holster. The pistol probably didn't leave the factory, much less have a holster issued. "Correct" 45 dated P38 holsters are not too hard to get a hold of. I think they run about $150.
 
Mag pouch

That mag pouch looks wide from the pic. Could be a HiPower holster. I have seen several bring home P-38's in HP holsters.
 
Late war Czech made bbl. They also made magazines. Both will have eagle/WaA706 proofs.
Upon closer look at the holster, I do believe you're right it is a Hi-Power holster.

Hmm, if that is the case... I think I'd rather keep the holster and fill it with the right piece. If anyone has a '45 correct P38 holster they'd like to sell (or at least can offer pointers on what to look for/avoid), please get in touch!

The fnh code mentioned above is for the Boehmische Waffenfabrik, Prague.

+1 on the above holster being for a High Power pistol. There should be a code and date on the bottom flap. under the strap. "clg" (Ernst Melzig, Lederwaren, Breslauer, Strasse, Liegnitz Poland) seems to be the most common code.

Rots a Ruck on a 45 dated P.38 holster - they are rare as hell!!!
I'd like to find 2 or 3 of them. The one I have has been butchered, but has good clear markings so I've kept it anyway.

45 dated P.38 holsters have gone up in price. the last two that I saw were up over $300. I have a nice 45 dated P.38 holster with my svw45 dual tone. I think it is marked gyx 45. I'll have to check it. 44 dated holsters are common and resonably priced.

Finally picked this one up and got a chance to take a few pictures, albeit not in the natural light I would have preferred... Of course I forgot to check the holster for a code. :facepalm:
Gotta love the varying finishes on the parts, though. This is definitely a keeper.

Nice b block ac45. I see it has an fnh barrel on it too, one of the 3 trifecta of ac45 collectors. Well, for me at least- my favorite 3 features- fnh barrel, durofol grips, and matching c block guns. Anyways, your looks nice, but I think the holster might be for an FN hi power. You need more pics of it. Lots of ac45 P38 pistols in FN high power holsters. Does your P.38u marked mag have grooved follower?
