Yeah the knowledge and information here is awesome and I also agree that those guys who 'know what right looks like' have a real advantage. Thanks a lot, very interesting details. If you know it, it is easy to see.
The seller was sure he has an original SS, he paid much money for this one.
(he forgot to ask here before buying)
The mount is still worth 1k IMHO. So not a worthless set.yes the markings are bad.. whoever did this spent some time and money making this train wreck.
Notably the receiver top is generally always scrubbed of its imperial markings. Commercial proofs added. After jan or april 1940 eagle N was used replacing the crown letter proofs.. The one shows up on the receiver right side. Barrel proof is never presented like that..
Ok, thank you for this. The mount is still worth 1k IMHO. So not a worthless set.
The 'ring' would be the lower band in our parlance. Those box marked parts would be new to this rebuild and it indicates who supplied them (I don't know this one and don't have the bible handy). The entire rear sight assembly was replaced and the band because the stock was shortened. And what is the marking on the ring ? (last picture)
Now the set is mine. The Dienstglas markings are fake as has been already mentioned . Also notice it is missing the — between the SS Dienstglas . This SSR Mount with Weihrauch Logo is original . These SSR Mounts with Weihrauch Logo were used on/with SS SSR rifles but not often seen .
