Arisaka type 38 with an Odd Stamp, Info Needed!

This photo is from a type 38 which is all correct, but it just has this odd stamp, what dose it mean? If this thread is in the wrong place by all means move it.

Are those three circles on the mum? Mine's got that too, albeit much more roughly done than on yours. Would love to hear the meaning!

From what I understand, overstamps on the mum indicate that the rifle was removed from regular service and issued to a military school for training purposes. There might be other reasons yet unknown. This is briefly discussed in the book, Military Rifles of Japan.
 
My barrel still has strong groves and has not been turned into a smooth bore, is that still correct for a training rifle? Or was it common to have smooth and grooved bored rifles for training?

school rifles

turned up on the battlefield too. My grandfather's Type 38 is school marked. It was captured on Okinawa. I guess they returned the rifles to service late in the war.
