“BS” marked 1918 Danzig Kar98a

I’ve had this one for about a year and figured I’d post. All matching as reworked with the bolt being a period renumbered Erfurt replacement. The bottom metal and buttplate are X’d out matching as seems consistent with other BS examples. Receiver has the enigmatic intertwined BS stamp and a 1920 property stamp. Barrel is coded “BO120” and I presume is original to the receiver. Stock lacks a BS stamp but does indeed have a 1920 stamp on left side. Wrist has what I believe is a later Spandau rework stamp over another stamp (Possibly Imperial or possibly Cassel?) but very hard to see. No bolt hold open as these seem to lack.

Probably the original barrel, almost all are BO and only an arsenal like Danzig could put the 120 lot upside down, - besides the BO 120 fits the known range well, CB had two Danzig/18's in the c-block, one a BS-1920 like this. Like almost all CB rifles pictures are scarce but still helpful overall.

I agree, Republican era 98a are fascinating and damn scarce in upper grades, - Police variations have a devoted following and have as long as I have collected, but still (last I was in the game) can get pricey when found period (none or few are very close to factory original)

Usually, or use to be, police specialist are some of the most dedicated researchers... most I knew of are older than I am and probably just as tired... not sure if the field is as vibrant as it once was.

I find them very interesting myself but also find they don't get the money pure Imperial examples do (I can't complain though). I am currently waiting on a 16 Erfurt 98a that's purportedly matching to last rebuild & unit marked to a Reiter regiment. On a similar note I have a few photos of CB's old Imperial 1918 Danzig that may be of interest. (The current owner is a good friend). I can't recall if I posted them here or not.
