BYF 43 question?

Hi, I have a BYF 43 that is all matching. It is a vet bring back and I got it many years ago. It has a three digit serial number. The bolt, receiver, floor plate, and site are numbered to the gun. Unfortunately, the vet put a light coat of linseed oil on the stock. Were the stocks numbered to the gun or only waffen ampt during this period of time? The stock that is on there now has a four digit serial number that does not match the gun. Could this be the stock for the rifle or possibly changed during the war? I am finally getting around to possibly sanding off that linseed oil and try to get it back as close as I can to what it was. I am not sure if it was ever sanded or not. Maybe I should just find a stock replacement that has the mauser waffen ampts on it.

When time permits I will post some pics.

Any help would be appreciated.

The stock, hand guard, both bands, and the triggerguard would also have been serialed numbered to match. Stock and hand guard numbered on the inside channels.
It's most likely that the stock and bands were replaced after the war.

At any rate, I suggest not sanding the stock for any reason. Do post some pictures though.
