Well, that's new to me. I know they whitewashed weapons, but I've never seen one with any remaining. I am kinda surprised the wood doesn't show any apparent effects from being coated and then cleaned. I assume that the remnants along the wood-line are mixed in a grease or wax? Weather sealant I guess.
I like it. Looks like the rifle itself is very nice too.
Distemper or thinned paint might be a better description, though, I suppose if you left white wash undisturbed for long enough it MAY just harden like we see.
That is a great discovery Bruce...add's to the rifle's appeal for sure.
I know a guy that has a beautiful vet bought sniper that was once covered in green
and brown paint...the vet removed the paint from the rifle unfortunately but there are
still traces of it in the grain of the wood and in some of the nooks & crannies.
