Attached are pics of a recent acquisition. Does anyone know if the Russians electro-penciled the safety like in the pic below? What other info can you share about the rifle in general? Thanks in advance.

Not Russian work. Looks like a crude attempt of force matching. Stock looks like a Russian capture. **on second thought the stock doesn't have the sanded or dished out area for the new serial number.** Don't know of a country that takes the trouble to re-number parts by scrubbing and re-stamping.

The 8x57IS is a marking I’ve seen before but not sure what it means, does the gun have any import markings on it? The floorplate and trigger guard appear to be original to this receiver to me, but the bolt has clearly been force matched. A rifle close to this, another 43 e block was just up over in the trader forum so you can pop over there to compare details. That one’s bolt is as original and you can see that your TG and floor plate are “correct”.

Well pic 2 in post 5 is a post war West German nitro proof for certain. I believe this was originally resold on the continent, probably within West Germany itself and probably prior to 1968. Some of that is conjecture, but of the mark I'm certain.

West german rework eh. Good to know. Thanks so much, you guys are a wealth of knowledge on the subject matter. And no, the rifle has no import markings. But all rifles imported into Canada, even today, are not required to be inscribed with import marks like they are in the US.
