Sadly, I limited on what I can collect. I wanted one really nice k98 for my collection. Then a week after I bought it a luff k98 that I sold in 1993 was offered back to me in a trade for a mr556. So, I ended up with two :)....
 
Oh, it never ends with just one. In 2006, that's what I said about just getting "one" P.38 for my collection. And I really meant it too. "Just one to show what they were up to", is what I kept saying. Well, one times many, many more is more like it. Whatever you do, don't just get "one" K.43. They even have a worse addiction than the K.98k's do. That would be a hard one, to let loose that MR556.

I understand what you mean about these things growing on you. I'd wanted the luft k98 back for years. My best friend mentioned that he'd bought a MR556 for his son and was wanting another one for him. I bought mine when they had first came out. (for a lot less than now) It was his idea to trade for the k98. A local gun shop here had just auctioned off a almost matching 1938 luft k98 the week before for 4500.00 !!! (the sliding bad on the rear sight was mismatched) So, I made the trade.

Too late on the G43s. I've already got a all matching one :) It was very slightly sanded. But, the s/n and all proofs are very visible in the stock. I did remove the varnish from the stock after this picture. Looks much better now.

Nope, it isn't. If you're noticing the inside edge of the barrel band relative to the stock. I wondered about that also. But, I've had all of the metal off the wood and it's 1 piece. Also, notice that the spring retaining dimple is in the retaining diameter of the band... Not sure how it got that way....

Very nice looking rifle. It looks like the upper band may have been installed without the band spring in place at some point in time. That would allow the upper band to go on past the point it was meant to giving it that "shaved edge" look to the wood at that point. Not too bad on yours at least. I've seen several K98k's that look like a previous owner had much difficulty trying to figure out how to remove the bands. The result is a lower band with pry marks at the point of contact with bandspring and chewed up wood on the forend around the spring cut, etc.
