Hey guys, newbie here, I was recently given a BYF44 K98, mostly matching #. However it has a 19.3” barrel and the total length is 39 1/4.
He said it was his Grandfathers bring back from WWII. From the little research I have done, I know this is not the correct length. And Its not a G40K or G33/40. I’m wondering if there are any other variants of mountain mausers or shortened rifles out there ( besides sporters ) that might account for this. The barrel number is (44D778). If it was shortened it looks to be a good job, along with stock modification. Please look at my pics and share your thoughts. I have more photos if needed. Appreciate the help.IMG_4423.jpegIMG_4422.jpegIMG_4421.jpegIMG_4420.jpegIMG_4419.jpegIMG_4418.jpegIMG_4411.jpegIMG_4400.jpegIMG_4399.jpegIMG_4398.jpegIMG_4396.jpegIMG_4394.jpegIMG_4393.jpegIMG_4406.jpegIMG_4403.jpeg

Welcome, but any reason you’re not creating your own post?

No possibility of it being a legitimate variation. It was once a late Mauser Oberndorf. Barrel shortened and muzzle crowned. Stock is a shortened yugo (see the vertical serial on the left side of the buttstock). Bands are incorrect non-k98k (look like vz24 hardware), etc etc. It’s a post-war creation. Not original anymore, it’s been messed with, cut down and has no collector value.. It’s a shooter creation. Probably decent for hunting and/or fun. Value? A couple hundred bucks…

Does the bolt have matching numbers?
