CE43 k98 Sniper - original?

Hi

I have been offered a K98 sniper, but I cannot figure out if it is an original or fake? I have not seen this kind of mount on a k98 sniper before. But then again; I am not an expert on k98's.

It is all matching numbers including the scope mount. The scope is a Dialytan 4x (scope serial does not match the rifle's serial). The rifle is produced at J.P. Sauer & Sohn, Suhl in 1943 (CE43)

Poor little CE43 rifle.. SSR did never come with long safety, aswell as I've never heard of a legit K98k sniper where the bolt handle was modified. And the mount on the rifle is something civilean, but not military.

Nice for shooting and a good lookalike, but nothing more!

Short story, no, it is not legitimate. It is a fake.

But someone has gone to greath lenghts then, to make it seem original. The (matching) serial number is stamped into the long safety lever and the mount. The mount is also stamped with what looks like the letters "bni"/"bnj" or "bmj". Furthermore the mount has what looks like a WaA (Eagle approval stamp). See picture no 2.

It is my understanding that reproduction scope mounts can be numbered whatever serial number you want by the manufacturer. I am guessing that they can put Wa marks on items as well. There was a sniper rifle I was looking at where the seller stated that the base was a reproduction and it was serial numbered to the rifle.

Still a great old scope , worth big money just for that scope , and a damn good looking shooter i would not mind owning if the price were right, as a builder and restorer of sniper rifles , i would not call it fake as much as a very well done reproduction that would look great on any firing line .Again the ? comes up ,How much is he asking? Even repro sniper k98's and other mausers bring good money nowadays to right person at right price and the scope is real ,the rifle is real , just the mount it seems and safety flag are in?
Could be a wartime rifle done in field or private shop who knows ,fake? no such thing to me unless he is trying to pass it off as 100%original german made or a newly made rero's would i consider fake , real wartime is possible, seen stranger things done in pictures during both world wars. Still a great looking piece i would buy at right price jmho.
Come to look at it again closer , the mount itself is rare, did it come during wartime with that rifle ?doubtful but not entirely impossible , i would research that piece a little more ,would easily restore to ssr platform and could sell the mount if you wanted too, it is very unusuale for sure and old. Who knows the real story behind that piece ,never say never when the mount and scope are that old . I would snatch that right up for right money dude just me . The rifle looks good and has lots of potential .

Please don't mind me wondering, but that scope is afterwar production, aswell as the scope mount. It's a rifle for the shooting range, nothing more. Not even a lookalike. Therefore not worth much more than the sum of the parts, and that isn't that much.
