Chinese Banner Mauser, pics added

Good morning all. I have a quick question about a Chinese contract banner rifle I am considering purchasing. I know I know , pics , but i just dont have the ability right now. Let just say she needs a good cleaning , a bit of rust here and there , the numbers dont match, and it should have a bent bolt but right now she wears a straight bolt .Aside from the mismatch bolt it appears to be at least correct. The stock has its mauser banner intact as well as chinese characters and the metal has the sunbursts in several places. Looks like a solid mismatch that needs some TLC. Would any of you go for it at $200? I hesitate as I know very little about them. Many thanks in advance.

I don't know a lot about them but going by what you say, I would pass. Put that money towards something better.

Chinese contract banners don't hardly ever come around. Mismatch or not for $200., how can you go wrong? I say go for it, dude!

The Chinese contract K98ks are very difficult to find in matched condition, or even mismatched in good overall condition. If the markings are intact, I would jump on it for $200. that is a good deal. I have one that is mismatched , but with correct bolt, and in fair overall condition and would not consider selling it for $200.

Good grab for the price. From the shape of the bolt knob, it may have a FN bolt. The Chinese bought large numbers of FN model 1930 mausers as well as the Standard Modells and K98ks they purchased from Germany and the VZ-24s they bought from Czechoslovakia.

What makes it a "Chinese Banner"? I searched and found a "Chang Kei Shek short rifle 8mm large ring".

The Mauser logo (banner) on the receiver and the stock. The Chinese , as well as eventually building there own Mauser type rifle, actually contracted with Mauser to build rifles. Many moons ago, this rifle was part of that contract.

Chinese Mausers have a reputation for being in poor condition. The Chinese also produced their own Mauser rifles which may not have always had the best quality control. I think there was likely at least one Chinese manufacturer that made a decent product though. Chinese Mausers are not my niche and I am paraphrasing just about everything I know in this post. There are guys who collect just Chinese Mausers and they are more likely to know all the available details of the topic. However, Mauser Oberndorf did produce some rifles for the Chinese and these are marked with the Mauser logo and Chinese sunburst firing proofs like the one this thread is about. They are an exceptionally difficult rifle to find in matching, collectible condition. $200 is an acceptable price to pay for an example which is mismatched but still shootable. As already mentioned in this thread, there were other major European manufacturers that made Mausers for the Chinese. Same thing applies in that nice, matching examples are difficult to find. Some of the C and P prefixed Vz-24's are thought to have been Chinese contract but are usually found in nicer shape as Pacific theater bringbacks (potentially could have been sold directly to Japan or taken from the Chinese by the Japanese), and also go for a bit of a premium, but are nowhere near as uncommon as the sunburst proofed Mauser banner rifles.

New Pics....

Well my little Chinese lady arrived today and I am happy to say that it is in much better shape than anticipated. I have not had it apart but the metal is solid and the bore looks like it will clean up nicely. Bolt and stock dont match but the entire barreled action does , to include the trigger guard and floor plate. No import marks that I can find either.. Here are a bunch of new pics.

Nice rifle, Great price. These do not turn up often and when they do they are usually in poor condition.
