Very cool with the E/116 marked receiver. My r-block has the E/359. I noticed the front capture screw is marked E/63. Is that typical of 1936 Sauer rifles or is it an armorer's replacement?
Sometimes the Sauer script is difficult, your rifle is a "e" block and it has the not so common "Mod. 98" designation, uppercase letters are more common in this range.
Congratulations Rob, great looking “closet” rifle, can’t ask for a better one! Neat mark on the sling buckle as well, never seen that before. It’s great to see rifles like this still turning up out of the woodwork. BTW, is the cleaning rod numbered? How is it marked?
