Danzig Mauser Model 1871

My model 1871 Danzig Mauser, Unissued
(ALMOST) All matching. The only odd part out is the trigger guard, which has a crude serial number inscribed in it. Just figured I'd share it here since I don't see many postings of these old single shottie rifles. Its the one that should be better represented given this was the origin of the Mauser line of guns.

Trigger guard is a WW1 steel replacement kinda neat in its own right
Exactly! that black paint is original so don't touch it. I've got several with the wartime trigger guards to Marc's point they are pretty cool in their own right.

I'd be careful saying terms like "unissued" though. It's seen some use. Technically right though, it was not issued as there is no second date on the right of the receiver, but that practice only continued for a short time in the late 1800s. This was issued in WW1 make no mistake.

Great rifle though. 71s in matching or bolt mm condition that aren't Amberg are all pretty scarce.

Glad to see you posting more!

Wasn't planning on touching or altering anything on it. As often as I make the occasional joke here and there, I have more respect for these old war birds than that XD .
It most likely saw some use, I just say "unissued" since I don't have anything to tie this to a particular unit.

I agree, nice example, fairly scarce maker and added it to the trends only three 1879's recorded and follows the pattern of n=o blocks which suggest year to year no roll over on suffix, - as Chris stated fairly elusive maker-date!
