You will spend tons of $ and time trying to do this. Probably the best thing to do is put her down and let her rest in peace. Sell her parts out to needy rifles. By the time you got a different rifle to fix up or a good original one, you will have probably spent way more money and time on this one trying to resurrect her. And honestly, if that receiver’s serial number is ground off, it’s probably not even legal.

Check this out: Here’s a guy and rifle needing a gas system:

I figured that’s how it would be and yeah the auction company went with the serial number on the bolt so I’ll probably have to keep the receiver. I’ll just make a lamp out of it or something.

Would the best way to get in touch with people be to just make a new thread saying I have parts or is there a thread for that already? I’d rather not try to go through gun broker or eBay or something.
You can just make a thread in the WTB/WTS section of the forum, there’ll definitely be people looking for spare parts!

Salvageable? Yes but.....There is a lot of correction to be made to that one. Replacing that barrel and rebuilding the rear sight is the hug task right there and I have done both but its a long process. If you send it out to someone to do then you are going to spend what it would cost to just buy another rifle. Definitely put her up piece by piece and you should make all of your money back on parts. I can tell you that the bolt carrier alone looks like a nice early one and will fetch some good money.

That is odd. I had a barreled action that also had an original barrel placed upside down so the gas port hole was on the bottom. It was a duv 44 sn# 4667. Always wondered if a disgruntled employer got hold of it and put it together wrong lol.

Option3. You don’t have to restore it or part it out. Keep it, use it and enjoy it and watch the parts on it appreciate over time. Better than money in the bank!

If it still works you have a shooter.
Or just hoard it away and sell it later.

You could go custom and give it that MP38/40 or Sten look by adding on a folding
or non folding stock to a homemade wood or fibreglass stock.

I restored a duv44 in the 90’s. I only paid $225 for it at a gun store, a vet brought it in. I still have it.
It came with gcb mag and an acw mag for an extra $40. It needed an original stock for $600 (a bcd stock) that I bought on this forum, and parts from a few other members. Got the small parts I needed from Sarco when they had almost everything.
It was still expensive back then but it’s a lot more now. It is satisfying restoring a gun as it comes together piece by piece. I too thought of parting it out back then but I’m glad I didn’t.

Option 4)
Part it out and hammer that barreled receiver in the ground in the garden. In 4 to 6 weeks you will have a perfect stake onto which you can wrap a tomato vine,

This is honestly kind of cool. Bubba decided to invert the gas system? One of the more innovative jobs I have seen.

I think it needs to be parted out. Lots of G43s could be saved with parts from this one lost cause.

The real killer is the receiver front. The serial number has been completely removed- which is a third degree felony worth 3 years in prison or a hefty fine.

So you cant sell it, legally. You can't own it, legally. So part it out and stop posting about it on the internet.
