That rifle appeared for sale locally, kept me scatching my head until I noticed there never was a dot 1942 coded K98k rifle ... I wonder if the receiver inscription is engraved or if someone used a G.33/40 action and recompleted it with K98k parts (would that work?).

Looks engraved to me even with these bad photos. If they planned it better they should have done like a 2 digit serial and not a c block.

Oops, only looked at the 3rd picture which looked like a massive gap around the receiver, clearly not a small ring in the other pictures.

Agree. They did a great job though....exactly the font you would expect

Also wrong proof marks all together for a Dot rifle.. plus they are fake.. someone wasted a lot of time on this one......

Well, here it would not succeed, what with the (literally) world class collectors present. But K98k.com is not his target demographic. It will, undoubtedly fool most. This humper has technical skills, no doubt. He needed a bit more historical knowledge, or he figured no one would quite look that close.

No, you could immediately tell because the G33/40 is a small ring receiver

Maybe we have different interpretation upon what is small ring and what is large ring, but in my opinion a G.33/40 is a large ring action (whereas the 98a or Swedish Mauser would be small ring action). Also the G.33/40 and the K98k bolt are interchangeable - at least I have bought 98 sporters just for the G.33/30 bolt they came with...
