Did anyone see this auction close? Gunbroker item #216585119 had a an incorrect stock and other problems but sold for more than $1000. Am I missing some super rare variation here?

The problems I was referring to include both stock bands and the stock itself. I am amazed at the sale price.

must be the lower band was on backwards?????
thats one ugly stock.. My bud joe just sold a flat new dot44 at allentown for 1100.00

It sure looked to have matching numbers and was complete and shootable but $1255 beats me!

It is not all matching, that stock is from a Russian Capture and I "think" that rear band is incorrect (should be stamped I think). I'm thinking it was a restored sporter. This seller seems to get very good prices on his K98s even when they have issues. Maybe he is related to sreisel? :barf:

Mix and match

Cleaning rod too short? Late war butt plate with the takedown disk in the stock. Check the color of the wood visible through the holes in the butt plate. No close ups or details of the stock markings... a crap shoot at best. Looks mix and match to me...

There is a visible RC number on the left of the butt so epic fail for the buyer.

Oh man, I just saw that. That's a $500 rifle IMHO, but I wouldn't pay that for it. However, as they say, the buyer didn't pay too much, he only bought too early; in about 15 years it will be worth that.

One thing for sure you can't say there wasn't enought good photos that showed at least most of what was wrong with it. I guess he may have missed a few things. But he show enought to tell for sure that there was no way that it was even correct.

People tell themselves all manner of things to convince themselves that they got a deal, such as telling oneself that the number stamped on the side of the stock is a rack number, or late in the war anything could happen with production. I've seen it plenty, and the buyer just doesn't know. Either that or he really liked the look of it and doesn't give a rats a$$ about the mismatched stock and bands.
