dou 44 help

Hello all!

I’ve had this rifle for some time now and I am going to be looking to part with it soon. Unfortunately, I am not near the rifle and won’t be for a few months. The pictures I’m going to post are the only pictures I have.

From memory, I know that the stock is marked with “dot” on the bottom of the butt stock. There are no other external stock markings. I am also 95% sure the stock is unnumbered in the barrel channel and that the hand guard is also unnumbered. The rear band is numbered on the bottom rather than the top, something I read is indicative of a late dou 1944 production gun. The front barrel band is stamped and unnumbered, something have also read isn’t uncommon for late dou 1944 production guns.

I’m coming here to see what your opinions are on this gun’s originality based off the photographs I can share.

Every numbered part is numbers matching with exception of the bolt release lever which can be seen in a couple photographs. The sling is marked L&F.

See attached Imgur for all pictures. The forum won’t allow for all my pictures due to size:

What is letter block is it?
D letter block! If I remember correctly, stock is only marked “dot” on the bottom and is not numbered, along with the hand guard.

The rear barrel band is numbered matching on the bottom rather than the side and the front band is unnumbered.

I think a d block should be numbered in the stock too. I used to own a a block, and IIRC that was numbered in the stock. I’ll have to look in the KM book later when I get a chance.

Imgur link isn't working for me. Very interesting rifle for sure tho! The stocks were numbered internally throughout DOU production except in 1942 if I recall right. The stock is probably some kind of replacement but I've never heard of DOT having depot spare stocks. Hopefully others will chime in. I'll drop a link to my B block example and see if I can find the P block one of our members sold in the trader section last year.

Yep stock is numbered internally along with the handguard.

I don’t think all DOU stocks were numbered I have a DOU44 in the ff block that is not numbered but stamped

My E block dou 44 is also numbered on the bottom in regards to the rear barrel band. As for the stamped front barrel band it should be stamped with the rifle serial number. Ya have a rather interesting rifle in that the front band is unnumbered along with the hand guard and stock.

Interesting, looks like the code for the laminate stock blank provider.

Ahhh I remember seeing this one! I wonder when the FF block was made 🤔 considering it is a Kriegsmodell variant that doesn't surprise me your example used whatever was on hand. I need to get my E block apart and see if it's internally numbered. I'm starting to have some very strong feelings that Chris rifle is some sort of depot repaired example or at minimum some kind of rescue.

It very well may be numbered, I just can’t for the life of me remember if it is. Currently away from the rifle and will be for a few more months.

I’ve only had it apart once and I remember that it was all matching but the bolt release.

I am starting to think about selling or trading it. What is this potentially worth? Let’s say it the stock is a depot/rescue replacement and if the stock is indeed numbers matching.

Hey!

I remember acquiring this rifle a few years back from the great granddaughter. It would seem unlikely it was messed with post war, but I’m definitely interested in taking it apart when I get back home to check the stock numbers, if there are any.

IMO, dou’s don’t generate the money other codes do, not sure why. I would guess all matching, not sanded maybe $2200-2400, if the stock is a replacement about half that. Maybe is is numbered and you just don't recall. It does have a white glue stock as did my z block so there that.

Thanks for the input!

I remember seeing several other examples around this block, including a couple e block guns that also had white glue stocks. When looking for other dou 44 examples I find it harder to find early block examples, but see quite a few later ones. Any reason why that might be? But 9/10 seem to have white glue laminate stocks.

Had a friend verify the stock and hand guard, both are numbers matching.
