DSWA - MEDALS AND CLASPS

As a general rule I only collect bayonets, but these medals occassionally turn up for sale with the ks98 bayonets and add a little to their story .

Collecting clasps is a minefield as there are official ones , privately made ones and fakes . The medal itself was awarded to members of the schutztruppe and the clasps could be purchased (if eligible). In practice many members didn't purchase the clasp at the time of service , and then post war had jewellers make them up (popular in the Weimar Republic era) , and this then makes it difficult to ascertain whether it's a post war veteran made one or an unscrupulous forger .

The certificate is a modern print, the wax stamp was added using the original (damaged) stamp in a fellow collectors collection.

Often when finding a medal with clasps there is zero providence to determine originality.

This is an Introduction and Test Forum, which is for new members to introduce themselves and let us know a little about themselves. It is also for members to test functions of the forum, such as picture posting. Seems lately a lot of new members use it to for anything but what it is intended for.
When a post is made here such as this, it is missed by some members who do not look at this sub forum on a daily basis, if at all. This post should be posted on the" WWII German Militaria " sub-forum ( WWI and non German stuff has been posted there too). It is good information to know and something I am sure not all members know about.
I, myself, collect in several different areas of WWI and WWII German militaria. I always look forward to learning something new, such as this.
A word of advice to all new members, slow down and read. There is a description for each sub-forum (what it is) under the Title of sub-forum. Sometimes there are sticky (saved) posts on how to use said sub-forum.
