Enough to make you puke.. *UPDATED*

I have a large font bnz 44 n block ugh...project. I got the action and stock at a local auction for 105 plus tax. But all together im in it about 130 now. The barrel has had the sights and bluing almost completely removed. I say almost because of the rear sight base was ground off! And it wasn't ground off completely! So i''ll have to wait for a really hot summer day and try to remove it with my little torch. I have basically all the parts to put it back together. Luckly the reciever wasnt touched at is in good shape with some nice patina. Another problem I saw when I bought it was the bolt release is broken! (see pics) Has a complete all matching early WaA 280 bolt. What would be the best way to blue the barrel without messing with the receiver? Cold blue? I have WaA 77 sight parts to put back on the barrel. Just thought i'd show you something to turn your stomach! Haha This project will be a labor of love! AKA a pain in the ***

I've seen broken ejector springs but I've never seen a broken ejector box. That's something new. I would carefully MIG weld a piece of steel or two to the remnants of the rear slight sleeve so you can tap it off the barrel once the solder reflows. Just grabbing the sleeve with pliers will squeeze it tight, suck out the heat and make it even harder to remove the sleeve. Other than that, great score for the $$$.
 
The barrel is completely stripped of bluing except for the small amount behind the rear sight base. The barrel was covered in surface rust when I got it. Picture 222.jpg
 
don't even bother fixing the ejector box. You can find them for next to nothing. getting site bases is no big deal either. I had all that stuff but sold it.:facepalm:

I got everything I need for the rifle. At this point its just a matter of doing it. :thumbsup:
 
The good news is all of the bands/stock/tguard assy would be unnumbered on this rifle.

N block and later bnz 4's had unnumbered stocks, bands, trigger guards, and floor plates. I can't remember if Steyr dropped the numbering on any of these parts prior to N block, but they were definitely unnumbered in the N block.

Its pretty much done!

I'm happy how this has turned out so far! Everything lined up perfectly, took a little time but it worked out! I welded a 1/4 thick piece of metal to the bottom of the old sight base and just lightly taped it with a hammer and it slid right off! :thumbsup: Only thing im really looking for at the moment is a correct cupped stock but for now im happy!

Could peddle that stock on ebay and get a chunk to maybe pop for a norwegian, if one could be found.
Not bad at all, for the price you paid!
 
Thanks guys! Im pretty much done with this project for the moment. I have a bcd 4 LSR resto thats in the works. I should have a post up with pics monday.
