Hi gents,

There are several threads about helmets from members of FJR6 on the forum :



I'm sure there are a lot of accounts and books from both sides about the combats around Carentan.

One of the main sources is certainly Friedrich von der Heydte who lead FJR6. I own a copy of his (late) memoires "Muss ich sterben..."

He gave an account of the fights in 1948 to the US Army.
It is now manuscript B-839 (B-series) of the Foreign Military Studies, the doc is 90 pages long, the report itself 45 pages long (bilingual). It can be found on the FTP site here:

The docs available on the FTP site are .jpg (page by page). I guess that's how NARA digitized the report and the quality is sometimes poor.
I can try to put together a PDF of the English version of the report, though. Result is not guaranteed.
