The Springfield bug bit me AGAIN - it's stayed away from me for at least 10 years, now it's BACK!
I am totally in shock about how CHEAP they are suddenly! Totally flabbergasted actually! And the parts for them are suddenly EVERYWHERE!
Springfield Garand's you mean?
What sources do you look to for good values?
So far, I've been only impressed with the Citizens Marksmanship Program (CMP) that sells surplus Garands and Carbines online or in their 2 stores.
Everyone else seems pretty pricey.
CMP has Springfields and Winchesters starting just under $500, for a rack grade shooter.
And in the $600-$700 range for Field or Service grade nicer examples.
And you're right - parts matching seems to be much less of an issue for those.
And you can personalize, refinish and bring up-to-date your weapon with much less concern about tarnishing history - as is the case with 98Ks.
