After a ton of research and searching I have found a Factory load that will be fine to shoot in your Gew 88,s and 91,s.
I was told you have to reload to safely shoot these older guns but this stuff works beautiful.
Remington Express Core-Lokt 8mm MAUSER 170 GR SP R8MSR.
It is a low power sporting cartridge with a bullet diameter of .318
It is hard to find and pricey. about 35-40 for a box of 20rds. reloadable

This is very helpful to know, I was unaware they were making this ammunition.

.318 ammo?

No dog in the hunt, but have to wonder how their 8MM with the .323 bullets are labeled.

8MM with .318 bullets

????? What??

I did not see where the .318 dia. was indicated on the box shown.
I'd surmise that if buying regular commercial 8MM the .323 diameter might not be shown either.
Would one have to look at a product list or catalog to know the difference without actually measuring the bullets?
Just curious.

Excellent reloading brass

My own personal experiece with Remington has not been that favorable when compared to Winchester ,fnm, or ppu.

I have found the remington to be kind of brittle and the effective life span to be half to that of the fnm.

Then again these are my own personal experiences and perhaps it was just a bad batch /run that I wound up with... however... I have a shooting associate who is a reloading fanatic and he is loathe to use remington for the same reason and he swears that his accuracy suffers with Rem brass.

But 2 like opinions do not a consensus make...so take it for what it is worth.

All 8mm in the states , be it .323 or .318, is low power because of the fear of a .323 rd being fired in a .318 bore.

Hell I got some renowned commercial ppu that was just as enemic as the state side stuff...sub 2k fps and shot 8 inches low @ 100

Stuff wasnt worth dirtying up the bore with....waste of powder and bullets..would have been better off just to buy the brass and load it

I think I could throw a rock flatter than the american 8mm shoots...got the rainbow trajectory of a 30.30.

You, would think they would list the B dia. I just kept trying different rounds with the micrometer until I found these at .318 . Have not found another type in .318 anywhere.

That's interesting. Given the difference in dia. one would think the boxes would show it. lucky to find a place with different 8MM loadings.

All Remington ammo I have pulled has all been .322-.323 all they really do is load a lighter load with a lighter bullet. I haven't found it to be all that accurate out of any of my commission rifles. For factory ammo I use Privi 196gr FMJ in my commission rifles with great success, maybe close to 800 rounds out of my Kar.88 and another 1200 out of my Gew.88 rifles and Gew.91

For hand loads mine love pulled Turk bullets, I have yet to find a commercially available bullet for my hand loads that can match what pulled Turk bullets do.

The boxes do not show the diameter. You would have to measure and keep a list of diameter numbers to manufacture.

Put 40 rounds of this Remington ammo threw my Gew 91 today. Was a awesome outing. Stuff seemed very accurate . The gew 91 loved it. recoil was easy and the rounds were punching right threw 1/4 inch plate at 100 yards. I put some in one of my K98,s to feel the power difference from the military surplus 8mm. The Remington ammo was definitely lighter. I have a great video of the outing and will post it here asap.
