G41 duv 43 on GB - Auction Madness

I had this one on my watchlist as I'm sure many of you did but this one went for an astronomical price of $14,404.00 which is way too high in my mind for one of these. I get that nice G41s are uncommon to say the least but this just seems over the top, I thought a fair price would've been around $8k or so. It looked like a nice one but the Walther safety caught my eye. Did BLM receive G41 parts from Walther when Walther began production of the G43 or is this just a case of a mismatched safety ending up on this rifle?

Wow! Holy Grail! Stupid price that without looking I'd opine is shilling. To get it right the new "winner" is going to have to at least spring for an E/214 safety. How much is one of those by itself?

Nah, it was just two dudes with deep pockets who pulled out the rulers to figure out who's was biggest.

It's pretty normal bid history up through ~8k or so, and then some 1 feedback buyer takes it to 10k but then gets out bid by another guy with a long history and some recent purchases from LSB. After that it's two other guys squaring off to fight up to the hammer price, and both of them are very active buyers with a lot of traffic going to SRiesel, LSB, Ancestry Guns, Carolina Gun Runners etc. One of them in particular looks like he's putting SRiesel's kids through college.

Two doctors/lawyers/computer programmers squaring off and over paying on an auction. Tale as old as time, I've heard greybeards gripe about the same thing happening at in person Civil War / cowboy gun auctions in the 60s when those got really popular with the doctor/lawyer crowd for a minute.

You see this a lot with these big "known shops" that certain kinds of buyers trust to have legit items (as much as they show up in turd alerts here)

edit: if you look at the history, 17mach4 there was playing footsie with the bid increments in 15 minute intervals. Probably hoping horned frog would get bored and not realizing that it was an auto-bid. Likely having another beer too to get himself in the mood to lay out real cash.

Which, by the way, is why you always end an auction after 7 but before 10. Give room for people to do some drinking and bidding.

edit 3: lol just noticed that one of them is a Gold Gunbroker member. LMAO 100% doctor/lawyer/well heeled IT guy.

Who would've guessed, a pair of morons with more money than brains. To Cyrano's point, you see this kind of behavior at large/reputable auction houses too (RIA, Morphy, etc.) where two guys who only buy from there drive up each other's bids to sky high prices. For that kind of money, I'm buying an MG08/15 and a ton of ammo to blast with it!

Watching this unfold was a sight to see for sure. The last G41 this seller had went for around 7-8 if I remember, which is considerably more reasonable.

One of these days I’ll be able to find one I can see in person for that kind of money.

I stopped watching it. Seems like even K98's are now beyond reasonable prices, even the Rc's are showing up for $1k +. Same thing happened in the Colt SAA/Winchester collecting when it got to the point where nobody was actually selling or trading. At major shows guys with a pistol priced at $6k that didn't sell would show up next year at $8k., the next year $9. Causing the influx of newer collectors trying to enter into the community to shrink. This is how the hobby starts to die.

“Horned Frog Mike” is probably a big donor to TCU who lives in the Fort Worth area - assuming based on the username. Maybe I’ll run into him at a gun show here. I’ll know it’s him when he is trying to sell these off for what he bought them for and I see them at every gun show in the area for the next decade or so.

Remember this Walther G-41 from March 2022? Sold for $21,325.00 before tax and shipping.

Missing the recuperator. Hole next to the trigger guard. Sling is well worn. Stock has been sanded.

INSANE sale price for a regular G41W - March 28 2022.jpg

Don't know who that is by name. I was referring to the bigger Collector shows like CCA and TGCA. Not the local "anything and everything AR's and beef jerky" gun shows.
