Good evening all. Newer member here just got the bug. A LGS has a hungarian g98/40 for sale alongside a bnz45 marked kriegsmodel k98. I looked over the k98 last weekend but was bummed to find it had a mismatched bolt but was wondering if the 98/40 would be worth giving a second glance. They were asking 2500. I haven't looked it over yet but depending on its originality is that a good price? The k98 was 1900 so I figured for a little more i could potentially get something more unique. Let me know what you think and thanks in advance!
 
If you can go back and snag photos of the 98/40. Would like to document and see what’s wrong with it. There has been some GREAT pieces offered here recently and some I believe are still available.
 
Yes they are in NH thank you for getting back sooner I feel better getting some feedback on them! If I head down there ill try to get some photos

edit…the k98k has a french sling bar added and heavily sanded stock. havent looked at the 98/40 since last year but i remember something turned me off quickly

I noticed the stock looked very light so that explains the sanding. I noticed too the front band almost looked "in the white"? Is that common for kriegsmodels or is that another red flag to watch out for?

If you are in NH. There are a few nice K98s at Old Post Office Antiques in Ossipee NH.
 
im no KM expert, id look in the photo reference sticky for other exmples to compare the bands to. i didnt look at it close once i saw the sling bar
