gambled on gunbroker and am pleasantly surprised

The auction only had 4 marginal photos but the description said everything matched with the exception of the bolt. Since it was listed as a 7mm, i thought it'd likely be a parts rifle and so I bid accordingly. Got the rifle today and it looks like a winner!

That's actually a much rarer rifle than you probably think. Not only is this a k98k rifle assembled using a vz24 leftover receiver. But this was assembled by the SS at one of their Depot facilities. I can see the SS proof on the right side by the barrel channel it's partially hidden because of the stock line.

I would be willing to bet that if you take it out of the wood, you will find an SSZZA4 under that eagle. You did very well!!!

Yeah, what a win if this continues to play out. Seeing all the Steyr parts and the full K98 configuration was immediately intriguing.

Those EP'd small parts too.

Deal? Gunbroker? Can those two words possibly be used in the same sentence?

It does happen! Happened to me at least once years ago. Usually or at least often it involved few/shitty photos and an inaccurate description. In this case it seems both played into it.

he shoots he scores.... As i said to those who seek they shall find . Perfect example.. lots of folks here saying damn how'd I miss that ????

The bolt looks to he a possible Mix of steyr bolt body and cz parts. The stock repair on the left side is interesting. I think this variant has a DH at the wrist ? Take a look..
Has the single rune TG. nice touch.

congrats...

I would expect the DH on the keel on a zza4. Such a cool rifle, a mix of so many neat parts, earlier barrel, contract TG, the receiver, and a Walther stock to top it off, nicely done, we’re all jealous

Early sszza4 rifles will not have a deaths head on the keel. You scored majorly if you paid parts rifle price for it. I’d like to see more images of that massive stock repair, looks period.

additional photos of stock repair

mrfarb....here's some additional photos.

the repair is quite shallow...it looks like it's only a couple layers of laminate. the checks in the grain near the repair makes me wonder if there was a large knot in the surface layer.
