I am trying to learn as much as I can about this rifle. It is largely matching with a good unit marked disk. The receiver, barrel, stock, top wood, sight, middle band, floor plate, trigger, a couple of screws & bolt stop match. The nose cap has 24 but those are the first digits of the serial number so maybe just a coincidence. It has the S. Bore is average with pronounce rifling. Tell me what you know.
Thanks
Tom

Hey Tom, Glad to see you post up another one of these. It looks like the bolt was remembered at a depot. My flat guess would be Rastatt, but it could be others. Got a picture of the butt plate? Also, if possible can you provide a picture of any stamps on the stock?

The unit mark is Infantry regiment nr 58.

I will take some pics of the butt plate tomorrow. There are some marks on it. Let me know where else I might find stock marks. I think there is something around the unit disk.

The "4" depot marking on the buttplate indicates that this one took a trip to Cologne at some point in its service life. Looks like there is a second depot marking above the 4 but I can't quite make it out. Regardless, it's a prewar Gewehr 98 that survived in pretty decent shape all things considered, congrats on picking this one up!

The second one looks like another, faded, "4". Might have visited Cologne twice.
