GEW98 sniper verification and value

I have a Gew98 sniper. I’ve been told it is not original. The numbers on rifle all match. It has been noted that the font on scope mount are different font than the font on rifle. The bolt also may have different font and may not be original. I’m looking for some help in determining how legitimate is this sniper and a value. I have more pictures and will try to get them uploaded.

Photos of the base rifle are needed. Agree with Big Dibbs, the ring/mount numbers are fake.

Yup, bolt and scope #s are bad... Sadly would have been worth more as a bolt and scope m/m without the renumbering. The base rifle is a legit Emil Busch 1917 Danzig based on photos I've seen when it was on GunBroker..just someone along the way restamped some #s..

Gew98 snipers, like most German snipers are fraught with fakes and bad restorations.

Agree with all above. It’s pretty good Busch assembly. But what was done to the mount and rings was unforgivable.

The bolt was also humped as well, albeit an original sniper bolt.

Looks like the ball of the bolt was cold blued on the end, it may not be an original sniper bolt. The safety is also a replacement, note the different finish. Could very well have been cobbled together then renumbered.

Value wise, it’s probably not worth much to a collector, maybe a shooter would find interest in it.
