Gewehr 98 bolt questions

I bought a “sporterized” Gewehr 98 in the 60’s and recently “restored” it. I’ve been looking at Mauser bolts lately so I decided to take the bolt apart. Here are the photos. Please give me your observations. The cocking piece doesn’t seem to have any marks.

Yeah I've got nothing on any of that. I can't make out 1 marking. Sorry.

I mean I don't know what they are, not that I can't see them.

Amberg was the arsenal located in the state of Bavaria. They used the standing lion firing proof.

Yes, I know that. But there are numbers on the front of the bolt arm which I would like information about.

Without a serial number you can’t tell anything, but the numbers show up on Ambergs and some here are tracking them: https://www.k98kforum.com/showthread.php?17020-RESEARCH-PROJECT-Amberg-1916-1918

The problem with my rifle is that the barrel and receiver are not Bavarian and the original serial numbers were stamped out and force-matched numbers were applied. A new rear sight was added. The proofs are intact on the receiver.

I am trying to find out more about the bolt which has no serial number. Take a look.

I’m not sure there is much else you can find out about the bolt. It’s Bavarian proofed made at Amberg, accepted by inspector J so likely later in the war. (You can use the reference thread to look for Ambergs with the same acceptance.) What specifically are you wanting to know about it?

I want to know what the numbers on the front of the arm (02 8C8 BS) mean and whether the shroud and firing pin are imperial parts which are correct for a Gew. 98.

It’s the manufacture code that Amberg used. It corresponds with the receiver of an original Bavarian rifle. The numbers represent batch, month, and year the bolt was made.

The safety, shroud and firing pin are all imperial. You can tell by the crown acceptance.

Your eyes are better than mine. That’s all I wanted to know.

The bolt seems to be more interesting than the rest of the gun which must have been assembled with loose parts. Somebody went to the trouble to renumber the barrel, receiver and trigger guard. The bolt must have been added later. It has no serial number on top.
