GI Personalized and Med-Taped Bayonets

I decided it would be fun to start a thread specifically for GI personalized bayonets and perhaps those with capture papers.

I found this one on ebay a while back and while it is not the condition I would normally go for I think the story, a lost one is perhaps much more exciting. This is a matching 39 Herder, SN 7651 C block (Thanks Andy), unsharpened, worn and definitely been there. I have seen others out there in past with similar med-tape, which I regret not documenting. I think the characters are too far gone on this one to get an identity. I suspect the numbers are an Army ID. The guy I bought it from couldn't tell me anything about where it came from unfortunately, he was local to Cincinnati Ohio. I've looked up several iterations of what I can best make out the number to be in the below database, but none of them match a location near here.

If anyone else has some I would love to see them, or ideas on what this number could be.

Interesting piece with the tag added on scabbard, anyway there are some points to mentione, this is a Rich.Herder Solingen also i assume there is 1939 on spine of blade, the o letter range would be not real for me, so most probably c range under 7651 not O. other point is that in 1939 Herder didnt used wood grips, so this could be war replacement, and as You already known someone polished or proofed to sharpen the edge. nice piece with history.

You are correct Andy it is a "C" and 39 on spline. Blade looks polished from some kind of use, does not show steel wool marks and edge is not sharpened, still flat. It's possible it has been cleaned up somehow, perhaps the marks are from being stoned, but the thickness is what is would expect. I have a 43 CRS with similar wear pattern and Ive wondered if it was from being used for digging or probing.

That is a interesting note on grips. If I ever take them off I'll update here. I'm usually against removing them but lately have found unknown rust on flash guard under the grips, for otherwise clean pieces. So it is a preservation debate.
