I have personally seen a Nagant cut down too almost a pistol at a range back in September. These guys made an $250 Nagant that they butchered. And not only that made it a listed SPR and had the paperwork with them. They cut that rifle down too its rear sights, bent the bolt badly, and were shooting it from the hip. They couldn't hit shite with that thing too, remember no front sights.
So in the end they took a $250 Nagant, plus $200 worth of taxes and legal paperwork. Total spending almost $500 or more depending if they cut rifle stock, barrel, and bent the bolt themselves are had a gunsmith do it. Too make something worth less then $40 in parts haha.
Not too mention you can't sell it now only by a class three dealer being its a legal SPR.
In the end an expensive noise maker.

They call them an "Obrez." I would bet one or two were actually made at some point in history, and now its been picked up by people that can buy a hacksaw for $10. As far as sporter jobs go, its pretty much the bottom of the barrel in my mind. Not only is the gun ruined, but its done so in a way that makes it pretty much useless. At least when you reblue, drill, tap, and restock a K98, you can still use it for its intended purpose, accurate shooting. The mosin pistol is pretty much a noise maker, and any accuracy that it has is accidental. Here is a photo of an M-39 that someone ruined.
The math: 300-400 gun + a few hours in labor + a hacksaw + sandpaper + a $200 tax stamp = a $50 pile of shite that you cannot transfer without a $200 form four.
Paying $200 to transfer a $50 turd means that the gun is worth -$150 in practice. So, perhaps $600 in parts and materials are converted into -$150 in a matter of hours. You'd be better off setting your $600 on fire. At least you wouldn't end up with negative money, but rather no money.
