Gunbroker K43

I bet more than few people are kicking themselves for not jumping on it here. Let that be a lesson.

I think if the rifle was truly righteous.. someone from here would have bought it…and paid more than $3900 certainly… The fact it didn’t sell here… is a red flag with the rifle

Unfortunately you can’t undo the sanding issue with the stock (plus in natural light it looks like maybe BLO was added)… and someone paying more than expected isn’t really an indicator of righteousness… so no lesson to be learned

I’m honestly surprised no one here bought it. There are mismatched ones bringing close to $3k. This one is really nice, there is no BLO on it, the metal has no rust, the bore is nice and the stamps are super clear and it has it’s original Manual. The only area is one spot above the trigger that someone wore down. I’m glad it didn’t sell here though

Congrats on the sale. The thing is with a sanded stock its kind of priced in a no mans land for the audience here. Much more than a shooter and not much less than a untouched example. That being said apparently the market for these is still on the upswing.

This is also just a smaller audience of people and most of the posters here are more price conscious. Even $3k is enough that people aren't going to just drop it on a whim. I'm going to ballpark that we get, what, 50-100 unique registered users visiting a day? Mods would know better but point being that it's going to be orders of magnitude less than the number of people that browse GB every day or even those that are searching "gewehr 43" on it. More eyeballs, plus people who are actively looking for something to buy. Just a bigger audience, which means a quicker and likely more lucrative sale.

I’m not sure how logically at $3900 (plus shipping/taxes/transfer) someone here would think that particular rifle could have been flipped and enough money made on GB (fees again) to make it worth “your” effort?

IMO that particular auction isn’t truly reflective of the pricing of both the actual rifle and other K43’s. Unfortunately with auctions a multitude of factors affect pricing.. timing, bidders, alcohol, etc..

If you really want to see insanity.. mess around with collector cars… a guy just lost $80k on a ‘69 Z he bought last year for an insane price of $260k… only to try and flip it less than a year later… $180k… which is still insanely high for that particular car…it is only money right? Lol

The insanity definitely isn't specific to pews. If it weren't for these blasted K98ks, G/K43s, MP44s, helmets, and other random junk and stuff ( :poop: ) I might have restored my '67 Shelby GT350 that I bought 30 years ago by now. In the meantime, I drive it near every day whether permitting and bugs be damned. Wimbledon White, 4 speed, and non-working factory air. I'm not even concerned with it's value, except for insurance, and my kids can sell it all when I croak 🐸.

If the rifle was worth $6400 to at least two bidders on GB, it was certainly worth $3900 to both of them. So if they were/are members of this forum, either of them should have jumped on it. I wouldn't have bought it at either price, because I have a nicer one I paid less for, but how long would it have lasted on GB with a buy it now at the price it was listed here? Probably minutes. BTW, the flipping comment was flippant. Get a sense of humor guys.
