Help questions on a Steyr m95 , hey i fixed it

Hi all , I looking at a m95 Styer strait pull , I'm not sure on caliber , the tag says 8x50r , I see a S on top of the barrel , wouldn't that mean 8x56 or ?? Also I believe it's a German rework, swivel on the stock missing and nicely done wood plug , also band is missing one loop . Is there anything else to look for that the Germans modified on them, no import marks, it's been definitely used , missing front trigger guard screw . Please any help would be greatly appreciated , Thanks Mike
 
The 'S' (or the 'H' in the cases of Hungarian converted M.95's) indicates chamber modification from 8X50R to 8X56R. Yours was modified in Austria in the interwar period.

I'm not aware of any specified German modifications on these at all. The deletion of stock swivels and subsequent plugging of the wood cavities were done in Austria in the 1930s prior to the sale of the majority of these to Bulgaria. An additional possibility for those non-Hungarian carbines and rifles left in or acquired by countries of the former Austro-Hungarian Empire (all still in 8X50R) is that they might have received some repairs and/or modifications where they wound up.

If the stock serial number is on the right side of the butt stock, you're looking at a Bulgarian import. Other indicators include a numbered bolt and (sometimes) a numbered front barrel band, among other things.
 
It would be nice to see details as M95 was not extra refurbished by germans, more real it went to Bulgaria, You should look at the buttplate for possible unit stamp. S means it should be 8x56R anyway some rifles exist that have been marked but the conversion was not realised.
 
Hello , I didn't take any pictures, there's no unit markings on the but plate , serial number on the stock is on the side with the swivel , no import marks,
 
normally austrians should have a matching number on receiver, barell and buttstock by M95/30 Stutzen. there should be too a Bundesheer acceptance above chamber.

Has that been seen out in the wild Andy? I'd never heard that before. I have one in 8x50 still AOI cartouche on the butt. All the other Stutzens and Carbines have been converted.
 
To the OP, not to seem like a douche or the grammar Notzi, it's Steyr. Sorry but I feel like I'm getting an aneurism every time I scroll by.
 
Oh I'm just in a real bad mood, I have no clue where my dog is , I don't know who towed my truck yesterday, I don't know where the front end of my truck is , maybe still hooked on the guy that hit me , I'm in a very uncomfortable bed with wires and tubes hooked up , I want out of here and just want to fight with everyone, oh it's NAZI NOT NOTZI , please excuse me , oh and thank you for letting me vent , it's all good , oh don't know where my new glasses are either , I wish my left knee didn't eat the dash, so mech guy it's all good, and Steyr it is, haha

Well sorry to hear all that. Hope everything works out for you. The 'Notzi' is intentional fwiw.

If I can figure it out, I only have 2 or 3 in my phone, I'll try to figure it out today as I can't get any answers from this bandaid factory as how long I'm here in this place.
 
Yes some were reported but this could be a bulgarian refurbishments M95/34 of which the S was added but the chamber remained in origin condition, i believe on Gunboard was one reported some years ago.
 
By serialed bolt You have a bulgarian or yugoslavian piece, austrian never serialed bolts on M95.

Is the stock serial on the left side or right side of the butt stock, and is it with or without suffix?

Austrians stamped the serial with suffix only to the left side. Bulgarians used both sides of the stock and didn't bother on suffix.

Additionally, the last two digits of the rifle serial was stamped to the handguard left side under rear sight leaf at Steyr factory.
