Help questions on a Steyr m95 , hey i fixed it

The serial number is on the side with sling swivel, I l remember part of it but it's 7??F , so it does have a letter on the stock , and only on one side , my main concern is the letter s on the barrel, I just want to make sure it's in 8x56 , the rifle it's self is not expensive, he will let me have for $250. My son wants one in 8x56 because someone gave him a bunch of ammo , thanks mike

You originally said the swivel is missing and has been plugged ... originally the side swivel (for Karabiner-carrying with the swivels on the side; versus the Stutzen-carrying with the swivels on bottom) is a driven through screw.

If the rifle has the S stamp on the barrel shank, then it is 8x56R caliber. I cannot outrule the possibility that someone put an S stamp there without doing a rechamber or reworking a 8x56R to 8x50R (if that is possible at all), but for 99.9% this is a 8x56R caliber.

PS: If it is a 8x50R then it will not chamber 8x56R, so maybe just try and see if it would properly feed one of your rounds, then you know for sure.

It has one swivel missing on the skinny part of stock and filled with wood , it has the bottom on front removed , it just has the swivels on the side now, the swivel that goes through the stock is there on the wrist ,

Change from 8x56R back to 8X50 would be probably not possible, only complete remove the barell. Should be proofed add into the chamber, it should be 8X56R when S on barell, anyway proofing is the best way. when is 8x50R You will not close the bolt by 8X56R. Any pictures of marking would help more as many description.

Andy I appreciate your help , I looked at itp⁰ briefly Saturday and didn't think getting pictures, I have told him I want it and want to chamber a 8x56 to see if it closes, I thought maybe German modified as swivels was removed, but it's cheap at 250 for me to get him , I'm having enough trouble figuring out german modified vz24s at the moment, thanks mike
