Help with GEW98 identification

Howdy,

I’m looking for help identifying this GEW98. I’ve never seen one where the fore end wood goes right up to the muzzle. It’s marked DANZIG 1916 on the top of the receiver. Not sure if this was a gunsmiths handy work or an actual pattern produced.

Interarms import. They took mostly Spanish Civil War used Gewehr 98s that had been updated by the Germans post-WWI and cut them down for the US sporter market.
