Hensoldt SS on SSR mount

Thought you'd enjoy looking at this item, a Hensoldt Dialytan scope from the SS contract on a matching numbers HWZ SSR mount. I still haven't had time to give it a cleaning (conservation with oil), but it should be good enough to give you a first impression of it.

Note that it lacks the SS runes and the deaths head, unlike the others in this serial range. They have not been scrubbed, they just weren't there!

So there might have been a few troubles at the factory when they made those, because in Spielauers book there is also a variant only with the SS runes and no deaths heads, and now a new variant even without the SS runes.

Wonder what your opinion on this scope is, and looking forward to a few comments!

Very Nice Hensoldt SS Dialytan with SSR . Falls into the know serial number range of other examples . IMO this variant SS SSR Scope is the 2nd toughest on to find , first is undoubtedly the SS SSR with Ebra and then 3rd in line would be SS SSR with Ajack . As far as I am aware there are a total of 6 of these in collection and one is suppose be 100% original condition and attached to matching rifle . Wow, I would have expected that a forum which names "dedicated to the study of Mauser rifles" as it's object to bring more than just one comment to one of the rarest scope/mount combinations which were for the K98k rifle in WWII.

Since I made them anyway attached are the better pictures, after a good oiling of the scope. But with so little interest I might not make the effort to take pictures and post them here again.

Thanks for posting. Plenty of interest. Biggest problem is that about 0.001% of collectors have ever seen one. If I saw this I may think it is probably OK but would be terrified to buy it without half a dozen experts looking at it and even then I would be quite nervous. Congratulations.

Looks like a conservative and tasteful cleaning job you did. Nice work.

That is a really nice scope. Congratulations on your find. I would like to have a SSR scope and mount some day. But, to have a SS scope. That is great.

I have a CE 41 barreled action with a type 1 side mount (no upper parts) that shows use. It has a replacement stock, just doesn't match the barrel, etc. Hard to find the really early stuff. Nice find!!!

Excellent job with the clean up , just enough to knock down any active rust and a bit of oil for preservation . IMO one of the biggest reason most don`t comment is because of lack of knowledge on this specific piece and many others in general . I use to be terrified of making an inaccurate statement at a forum when I started collecting so I never did . Criticism is a scary thing for some people and some can really lay it on well when such a mistake is made . Exactly what I was saying Dave. These are simply beyond my pay grade, and most people's for that matter. I don't feel real dumb about that either if Robert did not even have it as a variation in his book.

On making a mistake, that does not bother me that much unless I mislead somebody into a costly mistake.

We are very fortunate to have advanced collectors here, Dave and Absolut to name a few, that share their rare stuff and knowledge. Thanks.

Mike, I would have never thought I would own such a scope myself. Ten years ago I didn't even have a single sniper (and I do not only talk of K98k's!), not to speak of a scope! And of course little to none knowledge at all.

But I learned everything myself not only by reading, but also asking questions. The pictures in books (still the main source to give (mainly) reliable information) are most times very limited and often in black/white only. Therefore forums are a great advantage to learn and see more of an item.

If this item is brought to auction it would most certainly fetch a large sum - but I bought it for a fair price from another collector, for a price where 99% of you would have bought it aswell. Honestly, I don't even have a clue what it would be worth, but I don't care about that - collecting to me is more on sharing and profiting of each other, rather than to show off what one has.

Dave, thought you would do the same way. Still wonder when you will come and inspect it in person!
