Got this from an auction with a few other g98s last year. There is a very faint Weimar eagle on the barrel. Only markings on the stock is a 1920 mark and some circles at the grip. The bolt, front band and trigger guard look renumbered with a kind of odd finish. Is this cold blue?

Oh well. Is the stock from some kind of contract Mauser? There's almost no proofs left on the bolt parts or the/fp.

Yeah, total fake. Stock, bolt, everything.
Yeah, this originally came out of that big Alabama sale. There was a ton of humped mausers in it from M71s through k98k. A few decent rifles were mixed in, but the lions share had faked numbers, scrubbed parts and all kinds of issues. Fortunately the faker used the same stamps on everything and the font is distinctive. Lots of GunBroker auctions and small auction have been peddling these since the original sale.

Unfortunately Chris is correct. A lot of these rifles burned even a couple collectors here myself included. We took a gamble on them because of the terrible pictures and the possible chance to own something rare. And regrettably we all pretty much lost money. Now they just keep popping up somewhere like turds floating to the top of a toilet bowl.

That's funny (not haha) that these just keep getting passed around from one auction to another and one person to another. I'm sure they'll continue to like some hot potato.

Does someone have the name/link to the completed auction to just take a gander for educational purposes? I almost jumped on a 98m here a few weeks ago, but realized I was wading into unfamiliar territory and held off....

Interesting. I got it from this auction and noticed there is a kar 98 with the same font on the bolt body.

I recall seeing a PWB 98a that was originally in the Bama auction that ended up there. So the buyer likely consigned it to Zettlemoyer.

Yeah, looks like a resale after the Alabama auction.

Indeed passing off turds to an auction house. These are not just floating turds now. These are the ones you just can't seem to flush down. They just keep popping back to the top of the bowl again.
