Ok, is there anyone around here who can point me in the correct direction? I think it’s time to add an Mg42 to my collection. Transferable, doesn’t have to be C&R, curious the best way to start and educate myself. Naturally I know where to look to simply buy one - I’m more interested in what I should be looking for.

I blame all of you, mostly dustoff.
 
Call up MWT. They had one coming in a week or so ago. Also, the next Morphy’s has a few in the lineup, but rarely do you get lucky where no one bids it up.

Since at least one somebody asked, just got an email notice from them and they have 2 C&R 42s apparently by the description with the 7.62 conversion parts (not sure what's up with the .308 part) @ 70k. No affiliation with them.

Yeah saw those, is that the going rate for an Mg42 these days or is that the typical MWT crazy markup?
 
As an mg42 owner myself, you would be hard pressed to find one for 40-50k today unless it had issues or you got lucky. The market right now is 60-70k for a no issue, c&r gun. However, if serious, the best recommendation is to keep an eye out and be ready to immediately reserve it if the right deal shows up and the gun checks out. Happy hunting.
 
If you are truly interested in one of the German beltfeds I would give David Spiwak or MWT a call as their prices are usually market (in my experience), and they have good feelers out there to track one down. Of course MWT has a few of each currently, and they had an MG34 the other day in the 30’s but it was a reweld.

It seems the market for a nonissue, c&r mg34 would be in the 40-50k range today, with rewelds or non c&r guns bringing less.

While we are talking prices, what are mp44’s currently bringing price-wise if the gun is all matching and c&r? Not as up to date on those guns. Thanks
 
I see them selling in the mid 30's (even rewats), the ones above that level aren't selling. For example mid-40's on GB and SG are stagnant.
