Dear Fellow Mauser Maniacs,;)

Like many, I suspect, I inherited an old Mauser rifle from my dad. This 7 mm has been "sporterized," but is in very good condition, and I'm trying to determine, as best I can, where and when it was manufactured.

It's a 7mm Short Rifle with a squared-faced bolt and a barrel length of 21.7 inches. On the left side of the receiver, it reads: Deutsche Waffen- Und Munitionsfabriken Berlin.
Forward of this is a serial number: C 2056.

My limited research has indicated the model as an 1893.

If anyone has any thoughts, I would be grateful!

Kevin

Is there any way to determine where & when this was made, so I may know in what conflict this rifle was used?

I've attached more pics to hopefully help with your evaluations.

Thank you!

Shots of the top of the receiver would help. I presume from your description it's Spanish, but we really need more than just that one pic.

That said, if it's a Spanish m93 it's a pretty safe bet that it saw some action in the Spanish Civil War. Potentially the Spanish-American war as well, although that's a fair bit less likely. It it was untouched and had some of the early features (e.g. the first draft of the rear sight ladder) then maybe, but again impossible to say without pictures of the rifle as whole.

Your rifle is probably one of two types of contracted rifles made by DWM. Spanish Navy rifle or Boer Blockade rifle.
In 1897 DWM did make rifles for the Spanish Navy Specifically for the Naval infantry. The rifles would have a cartouche on the stock of "Ma" for Marina. Not every got an "Ma" cartouche and later be transferred over to the spanish army for use.
Here is my example of the Spanish Army used rifle.

The ZAR or Zuid-Africaansche Republiek placed an order of rifles in June and September of 1899. The OVS would also do the same. ZAR order was 4000 C-Block from C1-C4000. OVS order was for 1000 rifles in the C block. All of these rifles were shipped in the fall of 1899. The ship carrying the rifles was turned back by the British Royal Navy blockade. The 4000 ZAR rifles and 1000 OVS rifles would later be purchased by the Chilean government and have the chilean crest put on the receiver. Then shipped to Chile.
Here is my example the ZAR Mauser rifle.

Post several detail and over all pictures. There is a possibility the rifle is not sporterized, but a “commercial” gun.

The more pictures and detail you can give us the more information we can provide.
