Is this overpriced? Or faked?

Very overpriced and blade looks like it has been reshaped, Pommel shows signs it may have been reworked. Par for the course for this Seller.

POssible some cleaning was done there, question is the pommel area reblued as horizontal strikes are under?, similar pieces should be examined life, LW frog looks ok, for a Horster probably too much even the prices increased.

There`s a reason it didn`t sell. Way overpriced. As all of the S84/98 III bayonets this guy trys to sell are. It looks like it has been messed with as in cleaned and reblued. Again, something common with this seller. As Andy says, the frog looks ok, everything else is questionable.

Before I buy a bayonet, I’m certainly going to post here!
Thanks so much! I honestly don’t know how to spot things like this yet.
I truly appreciate it

Do you guys know where there are good deals on real bayonets?
Where would you buy from?

Here first. There are bayonets for sell on the trader quite often. May be some now, haven`t looked lately. I will send you info on reputable dealers.

Scrubbed, reblued, and sharpened. Why can't some leave well enough alone! Always gotta mess with something.
I think the bayo was in bad condition, rusty and with corrosion to begin with. Probably sharpened as well. Although I have seen perfectly fine bayos get "cleaned up" a bit for sale to the masses of the unknowing in hopes of securing a higher price like $700 for a $200 bayonet.

I`ve sold several bayonets over the years. Never once, did I try to enhance one in any way. I do minimal cleaning and then apply oil. I plan on keeping all of the bayonets I acquire, but that doesn`t always happen. I think my first S84/98 III was a matching 43cvl. About the only thing I knew about S84/98 III bayonets was it needs to match. It was sharpened ( the only sharpened one I ever bought) but was done well. The blue on the blade was gone. The grips and scabbard were painted an awful green color. I actually bought in to the seller`s story about it being painted like that because it had been used by the Goering Division. Yeah, I know, DUPE! I got schooled on that! Thank you Andy! Anyway, I kept the 43cvl for years then decided to remove the green paint and reblue it. It looked pretty good or at least better than the green paint. Then one day a member wanted to buy a bayonet for reenactment. Did not care if sharpened, just needed to look good. So I let him know about the 43cvl and I mean everything. Sent pics of before and after reblue. Didn`t try to get hundreds of dollars for it. Think it was around $125. He was very pleased with it. I was glad to help and also happy get a sharpened S84/98 III out of my collection.

Personally i doubt the piece was sharpened is not so bad on the pictures, most real it was probably reshaped on tip thats probably true, i wouldnt 100% about complete reblueing, is possible there was added a renwax or other oil on surface so not clear to look there are cleaning traces or remains of oil?wax?, the color of blueing looks well, possible only some repairs were done. Even he wrote WaA519 the piece is correctly marked WaA883 on all places as should be for 41asw. The overpriced is true here as Hoerster is the most common maker.

For $550 (which is overpriced) that bayonet needs to have everything it was issued with including the throat retaining screw.

cof 40 is harder to find as its switch from numeral to letter code , anyway 550 is overpriced, the frog has a cut off secure strap. On scabbard is missing screw.

Sorry for posting the link— I didn’t know, won’t happen again.
What would you guys say this is worth?

IMHO, much of this high priced awkshun carnie behavior is market manipulation, artificial price inflation. They won’t sell at auction but can point to this chicanery as “look at the high price of these, but I will sell to you for 25% less! (which is still 50-100% over reasonable retail).
