JGA DSM-34 1st and 2nd Logo Varations

Figured I'd post some eye candy for you JGA fans.

A few years ago I got lucky and was able to grab a JGA DSM-34 as my first trainer. After picking it up from my FFL and holding it in my hands, I fell in love. After months of significant peer pressure, I convinced my father to get a trainer and as luck would have it, I was able to find him a JGA too s/n: 6639.

Note that the 1st logo variation is a traditional DSM-34, while the later 2nd logo variation rifle (without Thuringen underneath JGA) has the DSM-36 modifications. Besides the main changes Mauser made in the design, there are some subtle changes JGA made between the 2 versions they produced such as the serial font and placing ".22 long rifle." instead of "Kal. 22 Lang Fur Buchsen" and the change over from BUG to N proofs.

Randomly picked up a 1942 Germania Mauser at the show last weekend, might have to keep an eye out for one of their Dsm’s to go along with it! Thanks for posting the pair

Thanks guys for the comments. Yea the earlier rifle is hard to upgrade, unfortunately it’s duffle cut but that doesn’t bother me at all. The later rifle is in better condition than it looks in the pictures. Shooting raw and in HDR tends to highlight the flaws.

It’s interesting to note that there are less than 100 rifle s/n #s for the 2nd logo variation in Simpson’s book. I got mine from an auction in NC. Earlier this year 2 more very rare 2nd logo variations showed up in NC as well within 50 miles of each other. I think it was 8739, may be a few #s off... but it had an eagle over MU on the stock... then I missed SN 8726 because I set my phone alarm wrong and missed the auction DAMNNNNNNNIT! It was stone cold mint, safety was broken but otherwise 10/10... a lot of little differences between mine 8734... which leads me to think mine and the other were very very close to when JGA made the DSM36 changes.... I’m out of town now but I’ll try to post the pictures of that one at some point. The rifles had to be together at some point... what are the chances that 85 years later 3 rifles from a war torn country ended up 6000 miles from where they were built but only 50 miles apart and within 15 serial numbers of each other??? It’s cool to think of how they could have gotten here...
