hello all

what is the meaning of the P letter stamped over the sérial number (the rifle is a byf 41)

Nobody knows for sure. They show up on early laminate stocks, so it's assumed it has something to do with the stocks being laminated vs. hardwood. Even factory documents of the time don't refer to the P marking- Mauser documents refer to hardwood stocks as "Naübaum Shaft" and laminate at ""Buschen Schaft".

But it shows up on other makers laminate stocks up through 41.
